Some Weight Loss Programs Don’t Measure Up

From my point of view as a hypnotist, any habitual behaviour is fulfilling a function in a person’s life. I assume that the behaviour is gaining a benefit for the person.. The behaviour may also bringing many negatives into the person’s life as well is a reality. When these negatives upset the balance in the life of the person, that person usually contacts me for change. Removing the behaviour without somehow addressing its positive intention, would do the person a disservice. Many aversion approaches to habit are focused on stopping the behaviour. My approach is to add options to the person’s life so that the old behaviour is such a poor alternative that it drops out of its own accord.
While in a hypnotic state, a person is more receptive to new alternatives than they might be in full consciousness. We are surrounded by negativity that is very pervasive. Many people spontaneously look for ways that something “won’t work” before they have even had a chance to experience a new event.
The hypnotist helps the person to internally generate new options based upon the unconscious mind’s magnificent knowledge of what is a “match and fit” for the person’s actual life as they live it. A stranger simply could not know enough about the person on brief meeting to get this knowledge.
This approach is very empowering and enriching. It is quite common for individuals who have used hypnosis to make changes in one area of their lives to find new and interesting changes occurring elsewhere as well.
The sense of taste is the one of our five senses which can bring us into the present moment. When we put a piece of food in our mouths, we are in the “now.”  All past regrets or anxiety about the future are over-ruled in the act of tasting and eating. Anyone who has found that this process helps them to
deal with either of these areas of their life is in danger of having weight issues.
Anyone who was raised to “eat by the clock”  may be out of touch with their body signals. Family schedules can cause children to eat when dinner is ready rather than when they are actually hungry. These patterns installed early and never removed, may produce heavy adults.
Healthy eating patterns can be easy to maintain if some of the “virus” programs are removed. Hypnosis can be a very elegant and effective intervention for weight challenged individuals.
