Stress Management

Stress Management Coaching

In the 1950’s, a revolutionary concept of mental and physical illness was acclaimed as the most important and far-reaching idea in the history of medicine…that STRESS is the cause of all disease! At the time, Dr. Hans Selye studied the effect of stress on the human body. In 1964, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for the concept of the “General Adaptation Syndrome” and in his book “The Stress of Life” he describes how he first noticed the early stages of many illnesses were identical – loss of energy and appetite, generalized aches and pains, and so on. These vague symptoms were taken for granted. Years of research gradually led him to realize these commonly related symptoms were actually part of a pattern. They were the beginnings of the body’s resistance to a stress-causing agent. It did not matter whether the stress came from a mechanical, chemical, nutritional, biological or even an emotional source. The body reacted.
According to Dr. Selye, the body produces an alarm reaction to any form of stress that threatens its well-being. Unless the stress is very strong, we are often not even aware of the body’s response. An initial alarm is followed by a period of adaptation to the stress, or compensation. If stress continues, the body’s vital energy is exhausted and symptoms become apparent. If symptoms are ignored, the body’s ability to maintain normal function becomes even more exhausted and professional help must be sought.  For most problems, the process is a slow and gradual slide into a disease that can be measured and eventually named.

Hypnotherapy can help to alleviate the deterioration of the body, mind and spirit by finding triggers and disconnecting them. New ways of coping can then be introduced to alleviate future problems. Working together, you learn to “tune in” to your body and to manage stress in better ways – for a lifetime of living well.
